“It was the first time I realized that painting could capture the Word of God, speak into people’s lives and give me the opportunity to share my faith.”

BLOG

Every day all around the globe, artists on mission are creating, cultivating, and contributing in their communities. As they seek to see their art used in the work the Lord is doing, we want to share their stories to encourage and inspire.
This blog is a place to read those stories, giving you a glimpse into how the Lord is using the arts around the world.

Every few years, those with a passion for arts in missions gather at GCAMM (Global Consultation on Arts and Music in Missions). Attendees are encouraged through plenary and breakout sessions and the joy of being together with other like-minded followers of Jesus. This year, GCAMM was held in July and focused on the theme of “Discipling Faithful Worshipers Through the Arts.” Several of our staff and Alliance members were able to attend, and we caught up with them to hear what they learned and experienced.

Our brains are incredibly intricate organs. From controlling our physical bodies to interpreting non-physical stimuli, the inner workings of the brain remind us that we are, indeed, fearfully and wonderfully made by God (Psalm 139:14). Artist Geinene Carson has been putting colour and visuals to this truth with her artwork for the past several years, researching and painting neurons. Last month, an exhibition of her work opened at Gallery 1740 in Atlanta*. The exhibition is titled The Colour of Thought and is a body of artwork meant to provide visual encouragement and gentle accountability towards the growing discussion of mental and emotional well-being.

Hope and Peace

Hard as it is to believe, the Advent season is upon us. Over the next several weeks, we have the opportunity to take time to prepare our hearts to celebrate Christmas. Advent is meant to slow us down, to cause our hearts to focus on the attributes of God that find their fulfillment in Jesus Christ.

Easter: A Literary Reflection

“So that is the outline of the official story—the tale of the time when God was the underdog and got beaten, when he submitted to the conditions he had laid down and became a man like the men he had made, and the men he had made broke him and killed him. This is the dogma we find so dull—this terrifying drama of which God is the victim and the hero.”

- Dorothy Sayers, Letters to a Diminished Church
