“It was the first time I realized that painting could capture the Word of God, speak into people’s lives and give me the opportunity to share my faith.”

Janice T. (Alliance & Short-term team member)

Every day all around the globe, artists on mission are creating, cultivating, and contributing in their communities. As they seek to see their art used in the work the Lord is doing, we want to share their stories to encourage and inspire.
This blog is a place to read those stories, giving you a glimpse into how the Lord is using the arts around the world.

In a previous article, we alerted you to the opportunity for visual artists and musicians to submit their work for an arts outreach project in Belgium. Though submissions have since closed, we wanted to update you as to the progress of this project!

We had the opportunity to touch base with Gerdine in Belgium recently, and she told us the following:

In recent months, a lot of hard work has been done on the storyline of the labyrinth. It is an enormous challenge to create a relevant storyline in today's society in which the coronavirus controls a large part of life. We want to tell a story of hope in a dark world! At the moment, the project is gaining momentum. We were able to buy a construction so that we can now build and try out the labyrinth. We work together with a very talented Dutch cartoonist, who helps the storyteller Pepijn the Flemish Giant come to life. We are also working on the development of Graphic Design of the panels that will be on display in the labyrinth. Work is also being done on music for the labyrinth. We are now also going to take our first cautious steps to look for locations where we can show this exhibition. The goal is to eventually travel with this exhibition through the Flemish part of Belgium for 2 years.

We are so excited to keep following this project in Belgium. Their goal is to construct a traveling art exhibition using large, portable canvases in the shape of a labyrinth that people will journey through. Featuring submitted visual art pieces and music, the labyrinth will center on Jan van Eyck's stunning piece "The Lamb of God" (seen at the center of the Ghent Altarpiece). The journey through the labyrinth will take people through the story of Scripture, from the fall of man to their ultimate opportunity for redemption through the shed blood of the Lamb of God. Pepijn, a Flemish Giant rabbit in the style of many Dutch cartoons, will guide those journeying through the labyrinth. As the project develops more, we will keep you updated. For now, please keep Gerdine and her team in your prayers as they work hard on the details of this exhibition. If you would like to contribute to the project financially, please click here.
