Forty people attended this Christian songwriting event, one of whom was a well-known Christian composer. She has spent 25 years prolifically creating Western pop-style worship songs which are widely sung in the relatively few churches in the country. After hearing that God had given distinct cultural forms to her people group, which He longs to be offered back to Him in worship, she composed a beautiful melodic hymn accompanied by a local instrument. Of the forty people who attended the event, several had a similar experience.
The songwriting event was unique in that three language groups were represented. One group is distinctly Islamic in culture, another identifies mostly as Christian, and the third is also of Islamic heritage and mostly located in East Asia. A wonderful unity was experienced as those present have all found their common home in Christianity. Prayer for each other occurred throughout the event as they supported each other and encouraged one another in their songwriting.
Demo recordings of each song will be produced, followed by fully produced recordings. These will be disseminated through the churches. Yearly songwriting events will continue to occur each year for several years. It is fully believed that worship, music, and the arts lead in “Kingdom” expansion, and the new songs composed will accompany a fresh move of God’s Spirit within Central Asia and beyond.
